Singer-actress Maicy Powell was born and raised in Sarasota, FL. She has been performing professionally with Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe for over 10 years, where she started out at the age of 15 in their Stage of Discovery Program.
Her WBTT credits include having featured roles in Black Nativity, Once on This Island, Dreamgirls, and Joyful! Joyful! She recently wrote, produced, and starred in her second sold-out WBTT Young Artist Showcase. Titled Growing Pains of a Young Lady the showcase was an intimate performance full of jazz and 80’s pop music that took the audience through the highs and lows of young adulthood— moments of joy, frustration, nostalgia, and everything in between.
Maicy Powell is a proud supporter and lover of the arts and understands the value of an artist knowing the ins and outs of the business. She studied Business Management at Howard University and also graduated with a minor in Film and Television. Maicy also studied entertainment business at UCLA, and worked in production and hospitality for two years at the American Black Film Festival. She has also worked with Amazon Studios as an intern on their production strategy team. Maicy has been trained in a variety of musical styles and genres, including opera, classical, pop, musical theater, and jazz. She believes music is a powerful anecdote to heal and change the world.
