Patrons can save money, reserve their seats for just $120 for three remaining regular season shows

SARASOTA, FL – As Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe opens its first show of the 2021-2022 season, “Eubie!” it is also offering the opportunity to purchase subscriptions for the remaining three regular season shows for $120/adults, $60/students/active military. The three shows included in the subscription are the world-premiere original musical "Ruby" (January 12-February 27, 2022), musical revue "Broadway in Black" (March 10-April 24, 2022), and two world-premiere one-act plays presented together under the auspices of WBTT's New Playwrights Series, "From Birmingham to Broadway" and "Float Like a Butterfly" (May 4-29, 2022).

‘A Night at the Savoy’ to evoke the era of the 1930s, recognize longtime supporter Marian Moss

SARASOTA, FL – For Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe’s 22nd anniversary gala, “A Night at the Savoy,” the arts organization will recreate the look and sound of Harlem’s famous ballroom – the first integrated ballroom in New York. The event will take place on Saturday, December 4 at the Circus Arts Conservatory’s Sailor Circus Arena (2075 Bahia Vista St., Sarasota).

SARASOTA, FL – As Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe is poised to present its 22nd anniversary 2021-2022 season, the popular arts organization is continuing to be cautious in its approach to operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. With subscription and individual tickets for the entire season still on hold, WBTT has released tickets only to its 2021-2022 season opener, "Eubie!" The show runs October 6 – November 21, 2021.

Benefit concerts to support Project Light International, to bring relief to beleaguered island nation

SARASOTA, FL – In the wake of the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that ravaged Haiti on August 14, Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe will present “Help for Haiti: A Benefit Concert” featuring WBTT Founder/Artistic Director Nate Jacobs and friends. The programs – which will take place at 2 and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 29 – will feature uplifting songs to raise funds and hope for the people of Haiti.

Up-and-coming Delmark recording artist to bring his brand of soul and R&B-influenced blues to WBTT on September 3

SARASOTA, FL – While patrons of Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe may be more accustomed to hearing R&B and soul at WBTT, the blues holds an esteemed place in Black music history and culture and the local arts organization is thrilled to feature it. On September 3, local fans of the blues will have the opportunity – for one night only – to hear an emerging Latin American artist and his group, the José Ramirez Band, as it brings its passionate brand of the blues to Sarasota.

Young artist to present ‘Love Language: An Evening with Astrid Victoria’ on August 13 and 14

SARASOTA, FL – Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe (WBTT) is pleased to present the eighth year of its annual Young Artist Program, through which Troupe members are able to showcase their talents with self-produced, one-person shows. The first Young Artist Program showcase of the 2021-2022 season, featuring 18-year-old student Astrid Victoria (known to WBTT audiences as Astrid McIntyre) is titled, “Love Language: An Evening with Astrid Victoria.” Two performances will take place Friday and Saturday, August 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m.

Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe's Stage of Discovery musical theatre summer  camp students will present two performances of "The Technicolor Musical" to culminate its 2021 camp program. The young artists will sing numerous uplifting songs and send a message of love, understanding, peace and harmony to a world that needs it now, more than ever. Songs will include “Imagine,” “Everybody is a Star,” “Man in the Mirror” and many more, performed with youthful energy and enthusiasm. This show will give you hope for the future as the students welcome patrons back to WBTT's indoor theatre! Book by Nate Jacobs and Adrienne Pitts; created, adapted and directed by Jacobs. 

Stage of Discovery is intense, focused and fun - and free - designed for youth ages 13-18 who are serious about developing their artistic talents. An audition for the camp, which runs June 14 - July 18, was required to participate.
