20^th anniversary season to feature Caroline, or Change, Your Arms Too Short to Box with God, Ruby, and Flyin’ West, plus holiday offering, A Motown Christmas

SARASOTA, FL – Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe (WBTT) has announced its 20^th anniversary 2019-2020 season. In addition to four regular-season shows, the schedule includes a special holiday show, available outside of the subscription. Running from January 8 through July 12, 2020 – the theater will be undergoing renovations through December 2019 – the regular season shows are Caroline, or Change, Your Arms Too Short to Box With God, Ruby, and Flyin’ West. The holiday show, which takes place in December of 2019 at the Sarasota Opera House, is A Motown Christmas.

Popular arts organization to offer a 'triple play' of fun, funk and fireworks as part of the Orioles' 'Arts in the Ballpark' series

SARASOTA, FL – The hits will keep on coming as Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe partners with the Baltimore Orioles to present the '70s Soul Party at Ed Smith Stadium on Saturday, May 18, 8-10 p.m. The event, which will feature WBTT's “All-Star” artists performing the chart-topping soul hits of the 1970s, is part of the Orioles' "Arts in the Ballpark" series. Tickets are now on sale.

Young WBTT artist Maicy Powell to present two performances of ‘The Kid is Alright’ on February 4

SARASOTA, FL – Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe (WBTT) is pleased to present the sixth year of its annual Young Artist Program, through which Troupe members are able to showcase their talents with self-produced, one-person shows. The first Young Artist performances of the season, “The Kid is Alright: An Evening with Maicy Powell,” take place Monday, February 4 at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. (The evening performance is already sold out.)

Free panel discussion, ‘Who Is James Baldwin? A Conversation About His Life and Ideas,’
takes place on January 28

SARASOTA, FL – Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe (WBTT) is pleased to present a WBTT Voices program, titled “Who is James Baldwin? A Conversation About His Life and Ideas.” The panel discussion – one of two events being offered in conjunction with its production of Baldwin’s The Amen Corner (January 23 – March 3, 2019) – takes place on Monday, January 28, 5:30-7:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public but reservations are required.

Groundbreaking play by James Baldwin explores themes of faith and family; renowned director Chuck Smith returns to Sarasota to take the artistic reins

SARASOTA, FL – For its third offering of the 2018-2019 mainstage season, Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe will present James Baldwin’s play, The Amen Corner. WBTT resident director Chuck Smith returns to Sarasota to direct this show, which runs January 23 – March 3, 2019, with evening performances at 7:30 p.m. and weekend matinees at 2 p.m. at the WBTT theater (1012 N. Orange Ave., Sarasota).
